Editorial Dear IAnDians, This week, we feature two commercial spaces and two residences; each typology underlined with a common premise. Both residences open to panoramic views (situated as they are on mountain slopes), each establishing its footprint in the art of seamlessness in design. The commercial spaces - a salon that goes beyond the call of its immediate function to act as a node that effectuates social camaraderie; and an office that has accomplished a resonating ideology via its interiors, come across validating the purpose of design. So, what really is the purpose of design? Is it to maximize daylight here; create a surreal ambience there; establish an emotional connect at another juncture... what? Whilst on the surface, it could mean all this and more, based on the equation of the space with its function and users; the true purpose of design is really to empower. To establish a close, emotional connect with the object / place in question; to create and sustain an ongoing dialogue. The true purpose of design is to leverage mind and brain.
