Dear IAnDian,
It is a moment of pride for the nation and especially for the Architectural community. An absolutely grounded veteran architect has brought home the Pritzker Prize - the highest honour in the field. Architect Balkrishna Doshi renowned for his simple yet poetic architecture that goes beyond the sublime to impact pragmatic societal leanings is the 2018 Pritzker laureate and the first Indian architect to be bestowed this honour. Our salutations to him. We have a small tribute to him in this issue.
This week, the focus is on the art of design; how ingenuity plays a part in culling out experiential design. So, we have the artistic sculptural installation by Marc Fornes that challenges both - design versatility and structural strength of ultra-thin aluminium; a metaphoric development by Zaha Hadid Architects, who bring to life the action of a falling droplet of water as a series of functionally interconnected buildings; multifunctionality in a shelving system by MUT design and a dual design for a home-cum-office by Ar, Gautam Shewa (our trending story)based on the principle of multifunctionality; besides the stand-out works of the hospitality-magician Sumessh Menon and style statement of two classics - Philippe Starck and Bentley Motors.
Enjoy the issue.
Warmly,
Savitha Hira
